How to get an internship as a junior undergraduate for perfusion, cardiovascular science, PT?

I am a sophomore/junior interested in going to grad school for perfusion or PT. I am looking for internships and there’s no place saying that they have internships for perfusion, cardiovascular science, or PT that I am qualified for. I am looking to be in West LA area (santa monica, venice, marina del rey, playa…) or the south bay (el segundo, manhattan). All the internships that seem like I am qualified for are for research.

Should I just email places although they don’t list any internship opportunity? (i.e., UCLA medial center has openings for perfusionist jobs… obviously I wouldn’t get a job as a perfusionist, but is it reasonable to email them asking to shadow or volunteer although they do not have anything related listed under their intern/volunteer opportunities… or emailing a PT place asking if they need an intern this summer)

If I got a job this summer as a personal trainer and then got an internship/aide in physical therapy would that look good? I need to get a job or a paid internship and I feel like I won’t get a paid internship in physical therapy so I was thinking about getting a job and certified as a personal trainer now/this summer and then trying to apply for a physical therapy internship more down the road.

Because you posted three rather similar questions in rapid succession, I combined two of your questions into one in this thread. The other thread is substantially different enough that I left it alone. In the future, fewer posts with more information is probably better.

Yes, you can email places to ask them if they have internship, volunteer, or shadowing opportunities even if they aren’t listed. That’s the way lots of people get internships.

Getting a job as a personal trainer could look good; getting an internship as an aide to a PT would definitely look good.
