How to get driver's license in CA

So anyways, I’m about to turn 18 in 2 weeks.

I had my permit previously, but it expired.

Do I need to reeaply for a permit and take the written exam again and yada yada and then take the behind the wheel test to get my license?

Or can I just take the behind the wheel test because I already passed the written and did all that other stuff, even though it expired now… but I am 18 now, (well in 2 weeks)?

[Driver License and Identification (ID) Card Information](<a href=“Driver's License or ID Card Online Renewal - California DMV”>Driver's License or ID Card Online Renewal - California DMV)

theres info there, and im kind of confused…

thanks!!

Take your permit down to the DMV and they will issue you another permit using the same number and it will be good for another year. No fuss, no muss, no test. My D had to do it because her permit expired.

With your permit in hand, you can take the driver’s test without taking another written test.

ok, thanks!! i thought it expired after a year, nice to know you can get it renewed easily.

also im taking my last driving lesson in 2 days just to practice a runthrough of the course and freeways cus we already payed for it.

do i need my permit to drive with an instructor?? or can anyone just practice with the instructor?

You need your permit to practice with the instructor. Please.
