How to get into Duke

Hello,
I am only in 8th grade, but I have this growing dream to attend Duke. The great athletics, beautiful campus, and competitiveness all are great. I was wondering what are some things I could do to have a great application and eventually get into Duke. I live in rural Connecticut and am white. My class will graduate with only about 80 students. For academics I currently take the only honors class in the middle school. But plan on taking 3 honors classes freshman year. I am in the top 5 percent in my class. [public school] I am planning on doing varsity soccer, jv basketball, and jv baseball next year. And I also take french. Any suggestions on some steps needed to get accepted to Duke would be great! Thanks

At this early point in your teenage years:

  1. Take – and excel at – the most intellectually rigorous curriculum offered by your secondary school
  2. Prepare diligently for the ACTs/SATs
  3. Focus on – and eventually lead in – a limited number of ECs, with particularly emphasis on service and engagement
