How to get out of CORE requirements????????

Hey all!
So my question is simple: How do I get out of some of these time wasting CORE requirements here at UMD?

Now, I know some people will suggest taking AP courses that transfer, or testing out via SAT scores for some of the math or english requirements— I’ve done that already. And I’m still looking at two CORE classes that I must take to graduate-- only there is no way I can graduate on time, and take the classes I want to, without somehow getting out of some CORE classes. I’m currently a junior who transferred to UMD this past semester, and I absolutely cannot accept wasting any more of the short time I have left at college fulfilling this administrations ridiculous checklist of “CORE” requirements-- I have specific goals and focus when it comes to what I need to learn, and something like a “diversity” course just cannot be filling up my schedule.

I suppose my question is really then: Who do I talk to to get out of some of these reqs??? OR: Has anybody ever successfully argued their way out of these reqs by talking to the administration? Do you know of anybody who has???

I would appreciate any and all information that can be provided!!
Thanks!

Well, some classes can fulfill multiple CORE requirements (in particular, Diversity)… have you tried looking at that?

The only thing you can possibly argue is more of your old college’s credit’s transferring.
It’s not like the administration is one person you have to convince. It’s a system.

You’re more like asking if it’s possible to get out of income taxes by arguing with the IRS.

You could see if you can take any online courses during the Winter or Summer semesters (or on-campus if you live near). Other than that, you’re SOL. They’re not gonna give you a free pass just cos you don’t wanna graduate late.

Agree with hurricane and gina on this one, sorry.
