How to get recommendations when out of school for a long time

I graduated in 2009 from HS. Went to CC for two years, but did not graduate. 2 classes short. Have not worked or been in school since. I did not establish relationships with instructors at community college. How can I get 2 recommendations? Is it okay to contact former high school teachers? Will they find it weird since I graduated 6 years ago and should have better, more recent references? How to contact? There were a few teachers who seemed to really like me, but I don’t know how to approach this.

I am applying at Berea. I graduated in the top 10 percent of my class. I received a few academic awards at high school graduation. 28 ACT. 3.5 college GPA, major Math.

It doesn’t seem like these are people to ask for recommendations. Does it specifically say instructors? I would ask a work supervisor or official where you have volunteered for a while, if applicable.

Contact your CC instructors. Ask them about this. It is likely that some of them will say that can give you a good recommendation. They probably have their grade books still, and can look you up even if you didn’t make any particular effort to develop a relationship with them when you took their classes.

If you have absolutely no luck with your CC instructors, get in touch with your HS teachers and ask them.

What have you been doing since you left the CC? The admissions committee will want to know. If you have done any community, church, or volunteer work in that time period, the people you worked with there can also be sources of recommendations.
