How to get the Dean's Scholarship at Northeastern University

Does anyone have any guidance about the type of GPA, Academic Rigor, SAT/ACT, EC, and application persona that were successful at being awarded the Dean’s Scholarship at Northeastern in 2023 and 2024?

Our son is a rising Junior at a prestigious boarding school with a current GPA of 4.0. He is a recruited student athlete who has verbally committed to Northeastern, starting in Fall 2026. He is offered an athletic scholarship, but we are exploring academic merit scholarship opportunities. He will take his SAT and AP exams over the next year and he will apply ED to Northeastern in 2025 as part of the athletic recruitment, coach supported application. Thank you for any first hand insights.

I’m sorry, because I don’t have direct experience with that scholarship or that school.

But in general merit aid is used to persuade kids a school really wants, to pick it, over other schools. By applying ED the school has zero need to use merit aid – it already knows the kid is coming!

However, the coach may know more. And also, some schools give financial pre-reads, and in some cases are able to give families an estimate of any merit aid the student would receive.

In addition to what @cinnamon1212 said, some schools will not stack athletic and merit scholarships. Definitely a question you need to ask the coach and/or admissions.
