My intended college requires students to report outside scholarships. These merit awards are supposed to replace the self-help part of the award. I was given a large grant and no loans as a part of a scholarship that the school gave me. After that, the award is supposed to go to buy a computer from the school and for the school health insurance, I already have a computer and I don’t need the insurance, after that, they just replace the grants that the school already gave me. The awards are from my school and from my father’s job and are in cash. If they are in cash, do I need to report them to the college?

Can I not report them if they are cash and use them to buy supplies or give it to my father to pay off our EFC?
