How to handle scary mammogram results

I certainly do! I will take hot flashes over periods and achy boobs.

Solution for hot flashes = coke over crushed ice?

And if you’re still having achy boobs when you get hot flashes, then you pour the coke over crushed ice over your head, as opposed to drinking it.

I guess I phrased it badly. Highest rate of unplanned pregnancy is in teens. Second highest rate is in fortysomethings. It’s probably because they think they are safe and let their guard down.

No, you phrased it right… if teens are the highest rate of unplanned pregnancy, then by numbers alone, we shouldn’t be as surprised when they get pregnant than when fortysomethings get pregnant because they’re more likely to.

Unfortunately, I do think we are more surprised when 40+s get pregnant than teens, as we’ve become used to teens getting pregnant.

Yes, plus we think of teens as being fertile so were not surprised that a fertile girl gets pregnant and we know that for most women fertility declines a lot at 40, so it is more surprising in terms of the chances of it happening to a woman in her forties.

Five diet cokes in a week caused these symptoms? Crud, that’s very little caffine! I cut down on coffee from the half-pot a day to half-caffine. I get two cups… very large cups! Caffine of one cup of coffee, but emotionally two. :)

Maybe wine instead of coke is the answer.

i am in my mid 50’s and skipped for the first time for two months. At 3 a.m. I am lying awake in bed when it suddenly dawns on me that I could be preggers. Oh my!
So I go to the drug store only to encounter 2 middle school age girls checking out the condoms which were right below the preg tests. Why was I the one feeling awkward here!

So nervous I screwed the first test up and had to go back and get another. Good lord!

Good luck Sax! That must’ve been a sight at the drug store w/two middle schoolers.
I’m one who had the surprise pregnancy at 40. While that’s not really “old”, it was a surprise to us! So, there’s an 8 yr difference between my kids.

Now, I’m starting to experience perimenopause. Hormonal, bloated at times, late/skipped periods. I started exericise and yoga class and it’s helped.

oh yeah, negative…phew.

Exercise would be great. Now i just need a kick in the pants…

Love the mom on the couch?

Disclaimer: I typed this as I ate a chocolate cupcake…

sax, congrats on the “negative”!

LOL!! That’s not in keeping with the spirit of that expression!! The mom on the couch needs to get off the couch!!

Crap. Adding myself to the list. Had mammo Tuesday. Already received a letter saying they need to see me and will be following up with a phone call. I know it could be nothing, but my stomach is in knots…

Ispf72: As one who has been there, may I offer some advice? Now, depending on where you live (we live in a large metropolitan area with several big hospitals nearby) if they see something really suspicious you will get a telephone call the day of the reading. I can tell you that the radiologist looked at my films (right after they were taken) and said that if he was a betting man that it was cancer but that I would (eventually) be ok.

Often breast changes are calcifications (my spelling is off right now because this isn’t a great subject for me), or subtle changes in the breast tissue. They often want to monitor and have extra shots for the next time to mark the changes.

Again, we live in a big city where stuff tends to get done quickly. But, saying this as a very nervous patient, try to enjoy the weekend. It is probably nothing. I’ll be thinking of you.

Thanks, ellebud! They called while I was at work Friday. Am hoping they just need better scans or something of the sort. Had other surgery last year and have had my fill of doctor’s offices.

I had pneumonia this year. I had to spend a week at the hospital. Trust me, between oncology, pulmonology, dentistry…well, I’m sorry…I can so relate.

ls- when I had my mammo the tech told me they call back a huge percentage of people just to get better views. Try not to stress until you have something real to stress  And, as I posted earlier a few days after my mammo I had an after hours message left by the nurse at my physician’s office to call back so they could “share information about my test results”

I had a momentary hot flash if worry and then decided not to let it bother me. Mammo turned out normal. but tests 3 weeks prior for something else indicate surgery needed :frowning: So, if I had worried about the mammo it would have been for naught.

ellebud - so sorry to hear that! I should have read this entire thread. Hope things are looking better for you now.

and thanks, somemom - I’m hoping that’s all it is. I’ve had a few callbacks over the years, so should be used to it by now… Hope things turn out OK with your other surgery!

Between mammograms and visits to the gyn, it seems we’re always being screened for one thing or another…

Sax - good to hear that. I have learned to scedule my mammograms when a radiologist is present so they can have a second look without having to send me that nerve-racking letter (or leaving that message).
