As I wrote in the other thread, I read a similar article in 1969!
I just had a conversation with one of my favorite young people, who is now 24. We agreed that “bumps” are good and teach you a lot. I see a lot of maturity in kids who have struggled, sometimes more maturity and empathy than in those who are very successful the whole time.
When truly clinical mental health conditions are involved, dealing with them early on seems to really help kids find a path that works. It may not be the path originally imagined, but just as good.
Many colleges and communities have wonderful supports.
