How to Impress Cornell (??)

Hi,

I am a high school Junior interested in Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration.

Today, I just lost an election where I ran for National Honor Society President. Afterwards, I freaked out because I realized that President of NHS would have looked great on a resumee, especially one where the student needs to look like he/she can work well with people.
So, what does the School of Hotel Administration find “impressive” on a resumee?

I’ve done a variety of activities, involving musicals, symphonies, publishing poetry, service activities, and being in charge of a youth group. However, I find these activities are some that might not help me stand out in a crowd of applicants.

Are there any suggestions? I’ve also done certain academic activities like Model UN, Knowledge Master Open, JETS Team, Science Olympiad, Shakespeare Monologue Contest, and others that I don’t want to take the time to list.

Thanks a lot!

Remember, quality over quantity.

Well, I find that is what Youth Group Leader and the Service is for - I am running the Youth Group 3 days a week every week. I go to the Food Bank every 2 months or so.

For the hotel school you are going to need to show a bit more interest in hospitality.

In order to press Cornell, you need to demonstrate in your application how you’re a fit for the school or major to which you’re applying. As CayugaRed said, for the Hotel School you’re going to need to show experience/interest in the hospitality industry as well as leadership potential.
