I just took the June SAT and got a 2120 ( 670 CR 800 M 650 W 10 essay). I’m somewhat disappointed in my writing score because I felt like I could have certainly scored in the 720-760 range. The critical reading isn’t too bad for me (I’ve never been great at it) but I would also like to get that up to 700+. How do you guys suggest prepping for the writing section? I have the blue book, but are there any other books I should have?

practice, practice, practice, practice some more, and finally… practice some more. Then after you practice, go over each one you got wrong, understand why you got it wrong, and then don’t make the same mistake. I did that for 3 intense weeks in between my two times of taking the SAT, and went from 1980 to 2240 (with a 680 CR, which I will definitely try to increase in October).

That’s a funny coincidence “dn4144” because I got the exact same score as you did but with an 8 essay (2120, 670 CR, 800 M, and 650 W/ 8 Essay). I am trying to do the same thing you are. From what I have heard, it is just best to do a lot of practice tests and make sure you can easily recognize the errors in the writing sections, which usually isn’t that hard to do because there are always some tricks that they continually put on the tests. I guess if you just practice enough times you will see all the tricks and eventually be able to see them on the real test as well. I am just going to do a lot of practice tests over the summer especially from the blue book.

tbh, learning to focus in the SAT is helpful. When I find myself asking myself “Is it A or B” ten times, I know it’s time to stop and try to think of other ways to approach the question
