ahahah, i find it interesting how you think chinese people always have trouble with this.
i do fine in cr, sometimes better than how i do in math and writing (usually careless) and i’m chinese too.

the best way to get better at critical reading is to READ. you’ve probably heard this before, but reading is a surefire way to get better. additionally, i know this sounds really oversaid, but when you read passages, especially long passages, try to mark it up and underline and really “digest” it when you read. don’t just read it cursorily; that won’t get you too far. make notes in the margins, look for indications of the authors main idea, and you should get better.

and of course, the only way to get better at anything is to practice. to get better at cr, you need to keep practicing. buy a practice book (try the blue book) and do as many practice tests as possible. you should and will get better!

Thank you for reply.i got that book.but tooooooo many un-familiar word.and member the vocab-book is tooooo difficult I thought… So i try to read passage and underline the unknown words.i want to use this way to member words.how about you think about this?

First of all you should get vocab out of the way by going through direct hits and that should be enough if you know how to associate roots and prefixes etc, eliminate choices, and know negative/positive relations… For passage reading you have to read the intro slowly to know where the passage is going, then read quicker until the conclusion, and read that slowly. Answer questions AS you read along the passage. I usually mark the passage to keep my panic level down and find the quotes quicker and easier.

If the vocab is too difficult, they you need to study vocab first and foremost. Learning 4-5000 words will give you at least 100 points in CR. And those words will also help you with vocab-in-context q’s and assist in your understanding of the passages. Vocab is the first step for CR; there’s no way to get a respectable CR score without knowing the words.
