There are several threads on improving on the Reading section of the ACT, but they all just seem…useless. Really, how to improve in Reading? Some say to read a lot, which I do, esp. with big books, but that didn’t really improve anything. Others say to try to figure out literary devices and inferences and implications.

Read excerpts out of literature and then write a summary and response.

Can prepping for CR help?

What is CR?

SAT Critical Reading

SAT Critical Reading and ACT Reading are two different beasts. ACT is more literal i.e. “What color is the dog?”, whereas SAT CR is more conceptual, “What does the color of the dog symbolize?” Another major difference is time constraints. ACT Reading is very very time constrained, you must be a fast reader, whereas SAT Reading usually lets you take a little bit more time. To prep for the ACT Reading I would work on reading speed, i.e. take a book and everyday work on reading as quickly as possible while still retaining understanding.
