Bump

Okay, so I’m actually up right now waiting for my latest SAT scores to come back… last time I got a 2190 with 790, 690, 710 respectively… I have nothing else to do while I anxiously wait, so here’s what I think.

CR:
Honestly the reason I got a 790 in reading is that I LOVE to read… read some good books and I think it actually miraculously helps the score. The other huge thing is obviously vocab… find a list of SAT words and just make flashcards… drum 300ish words into your head and that will help a ton. Another AWESOME trick with vocab is just to learn the Latin roots of words, because then even if you don’t know the word, but recognize the root, you can usually get the gist of what it is trying to say

Math:
Just practice I guess… I hate math so I don’t practice enough… The SAT is really about basic math skills. Can’t really help much with math, only got a 690.

Writing:
I was actually annoyed with my writing score because I only missed one multiple choice, but then got an 8/12 on the essay. The key for the multiple choice is to memorize simple grammar rules.
Big things:
subject/verb agreement
I vs me
…can’t think of any more, its 3 am :P…

for the essay, as far as i can tell, you do need a somewhat decent vocabulary and need to know how to construct a decent paper, from other essays i’ve read, topical references to other books and life experiences are always good.

The big thing is practice: I recommend buying the official SAT prep book and taking practice tests… its around 150$ i think? (i might be really off base on that, my uncle bought it :P) I’d be happy to recommend other books if you want as well.

Wow 2110 is a fantastic score! Was there a amount of practice+ schedule involved?

I agree, I improved my score from a 1820 to a 2060 by doing about 8 practice tests from the blue book in conjunction with Kaplan SAT prep book. Not superb but it’s a good way to improve.
