I am a junior my hopes are to go to UNC (sociology/psychology double major), I was wondering how best to show them that I am extremely interested in going to UNC, anything I can do now?

Also, I am a working-student to an Equestrian PE teacher who is also a coach to a club sport (who I also believe will give me an excellent recommendation). I am friends with many UNC students because of the job and it is their influence and representation of the school that makes me want to go to UNC so much. Would it be appropriate to work that into my application essay?

Send in a lot of recommendations. Send in a lot of letters of EXPRESSED interest. Be obsessive and as sketchy as you can be. Essentially stalk the school. :)

^The reason you didn’t get in might have been because of your obsessive behaviors. Please tell me you aren’t serious.

Anyways, OP, maybe visit the school if you live close. If not, I don’t think not visitng will be a big deal for UNC. Frequent prospective student blogs, join the mailing lists, etc. Doing the bare minimum and applying generally constitutes enough interest. If UNC explicitly recommends interviews, definitely have one.

i wouldn’t stalk the school–maybe that’s why you didn’t get into your top choice? just a thought
the UNC adcom has enough to read. The best thing you can do is apply ED or EA and write ONE additional letter (paragraph-page in length). Any more than that and you become a pain. If you apply EA or RD, or if you are deferred ED, include that if accepted you will definitely attend. It won’t help that you know people there, but it could help your letter if you say one of the reasons you are interested is the intellect, experience, etc of the people you know who have gone to UNC

This question has come up a lot. Usually it leads to humorous responses and little else. OK, sometimes very humorous.

Here’s what I’d do. Think about why it’s your first choice. Include the friends and horses and all that. And add anything else - like anything special about the departments you mention. Google the professors till you find a few who are doing things you are interested in. Contact them if you can do it with a straight face. See how far you can take it. Use all of this info in your essay.

Also, make reasonable early contact with the school. For instance, if they participate at a college fair, go there and fill out a mailing card. Tour the campus. Twice.

moderation but persistant is a good combination. when working on your applications/essays, what you want to do is show how and why the college needs you, and why you are a much candidate/investment than your peers.
