How to loft a bed

My room this year is more like a prison cell than a room, and next year my roommate and I will be in the same setup. We decided to loft our beds in order to save space. Our university requires the existing bed be incorporated into lofts, and does not provide the extra frames necessary to construct it. Does anybody know where to get kits to loft the beds? Everywhere I’ve looked so far either costs hundreds per semester, or doesn’t provide a price. I can’t spend more than $100 per semester to loft these beds.

I do not have the information you want, but I urge you to read the following thread before you loft them.

Some students who have fallen out of lofted beds that didn’t have guard rails have died or been severely injured.

If (when) you loft your beds, be sure to install whatever guard rails your college provides.

Sorry, that was not the thread I wanted to link; this one was:

As previously mentioned, make sure that you only loft beds if it is safe to do so! One of the dorms at my university did not provide lofting equipment, so many students lofted their beds by using their fairly tall dressers or bookcases.
