I am a senior in high school that is going into college next year. How do I maintain a very high GPA (a good med-school competitive one) and not get below a 3.7 and never end up a doctor and become a loser substitute teacher?

Come to think of it, all of my substitute teachers were former premeds with 3.69 GPA’s.

hahahaha

oh god forbid i should ever become a substitute teacher! Perish the thought!

I’m not sure if this technique works for everyone, but so far nobody I’ve met has come up with a better one, so here it is! The GoldShadow 3-Step Technique (patent pending):

1) Earn all As and A-'s
2)???
3) Profit!

I think you mean “collect” all A’s and A-'s.

become a “gunner”

There are rumors floating around my school that suggest if your roommate kills himself/herself you get a 4.0 for the semester, but maybe after 2-3 semesters of losing a roommate, someone might question your effect on other people. ;)

LOL That’s harsh. Are substitute teachers really that bad?

All rubbish posts. Any real responses?

Love the use of “rubbish.”

My advice is “darma.” Do what you have to do without thinking about the fruit of the labor. Just do the best you can. If you’re best isn’t 3.7 level you’re not going to get a 3.7, but so what? 3.7 is just a number that comes after 3.6 and before 3.8, that’s all. It’s much more about what you have learned, how you’ve grown, and what have you done in your process to get that GPA. If you’re best is 4.0, I’m sure you’ll get a 4.0. Just do your best.

isn’t the term “gunner” reserved for use in med. school?

yg18: hmm but no matter how hard some ppl try… they might not be as talented as others… >.< i know i’m not a genius like some ppl at my high school haha…

BubbytheTourG: hmm u’re kinda rude… haha…

Hardly. If anything, gunnerism probably goes down after med school acceptance.

really? i have never heard it used for someone before medical school. then what do they call the study-freaks shooting for dermatology?

BubbytheTourG: To get a high GPA (above 3.7+) in college, avoid doing all the things you did that got you a 3.3 in high school. You don’t want another 3.3 in college, do you?

In my opinion, a gunner is not a study-freak or someone who works hard but rather someone who refuses to study with others or tries to sabotage someone’s grade.

I’ll give you one tip: start by showing the proper respect to your teachers and the time they’re investing in you.

just keep trying i guess.

When we went for orientation at TCNJ, the faculty recommended that all students read this book. It definitely had some pearls of wisdom that are very helpful in transitioning.

I highly recommend you read it before starting College.
