How to make a poli sci degree marketable?

I know that many people take political science and then go to law school but I would love to major in political science and go into some sort of government position. However I have heard that poli sci majors have no good career prospects and I am wondering how I could make myself more marketable. I was thinking a double major in statistics or economics? A minor in communications? Lots of internships?

It’s always good to have an internship.

You could make your poli sci degree more marketable by changing your major to engineering.

I majored in political science and made it marketable to the business world by doing a lot of quantitative data analysis within the realm of political science. That helped tremendously. Also, I was involved in management and leadership within a campus group, which helped me to develop some skills.

Now, when you say you want to go into a government position, that is an extremely general statement. The government is so huge that there is a government position for just about everything … what kind of job do you think you have interest in?

Accompanying poli sci with economics would be a sure winner! and yes internships would make you more credible as well

Why not run for school board the next time there’s an opening? Start with some small, relatively easy positions, so you can learn what that type of service really entails.
