I’ve searched but I cannot find how to make the nice little formatted quote boxes that appear in some threads.

Here is how to do it…

Do what I do below EXCEPT when you do it, leave out the SPACES where I have spaces. That will make it work. I left the spaces here to be able to show you what to type:

[ quote ] Text of your quote. [ / quote ]

And here is how that looks when leaving out the spaces:

Soozie means leave out the spaces inside the square quote boxes. Its ok to have spaces in what you’re quoting. The inside of the boxes should have quote and then /quote in the second one. You’ll get the hang of it.

And there’s so many other things you can do:

The word quote or a quotation mark?

And I see that quotes do not count as message text. Interesting.

I think someone beat me to this

Puzzled…
Use the word “quote” just as I typed it in the example. Do everything as I typed it but take out the spaces I had between the [ and the ] symbols. And yes, as dadx points out, the spaces within the text of your quote still need to be used.

Thanks! I was wondering too.

I’ve always thought it was strange that there isn’t a quick and easy way to quote and give name credit like there is on other forums.

And, then there’s that odd “quote message in reply” option that doesn’t work.

If you want to say who you are quoting, type for example quote=vlines and you will get:
Also, the command is not case sensitive so QUOTE also works.

I’ve always noticed the option at the bottom of the box we type replies in (lower left corner) that has a place to check “quote message in reply” but it doesn’t seem to work. Anyone know how to use it?

I always wanted a place to try this out.

Ahh, still not right.

Ok I think I’ve got this part.

Put the =bayberry with your initial quote box thingy, instead of just the “quote”.

Here’s my theory: On other boards, you hit the quote button and the person’s entire post is there in your Reply box. People tend not to edit, leaving the entire post intact, even if they’re just replying to one sentence. Then someone who wants to respond to that reply just hits the quote button, and voila! they have TWO entire posts in the Reply box, neither of which gets edited. And so on. It makes for long, cluttered threads.

I’m been on CC for years and just now figuring this out!!!

yeeeeeeeraaaahhhh

When I saw this thread, I thought “What a great idea, a box full of quotations. You could have a theme, like ‘what makes a happy marriage’ or ‘hard work’…”

Alas, not so. (Apparently I have a very literal brain.)

If you want to show someone how to do fancy things like quoting, you can use the noparse tag, so you don’t have to add spaces and what-not. For example:

To add a quote to your post, add the following:

This gives you something that looks like this:
