How to make an interview outstanding?

I’m going to have a Cornell interview this Saturday, and it is actually informal. What can I do to impress them? Should I focus more on the types of questions that I am going to ask? (Asking the interviewer some questions about Cornell) I should ask them some questions that not many other students would ask, right? I should also bring in a resume and be prepared to answer a series of questions about my ECs?

It’s good to find out a bit about the interviewer by Googling and by asking the interviewer early in the interview about their college major and their profession.

By doing this, you can establish a rapport with them by talking about things you’ve done that you have in common or that may interest them. For instance, if the interviewer is a scientist, s/he may be very interested in the intricate details of your award-winning science fair project. If the interviewer is a social worker who works for a nonprofit, s/he may be more interested in your longtime community service experience acting as a buddy to an autistic child.

You should ask questions that really interest you, that aren’t answered on the web site and that the interviewer is likely to be able to ask. Consequently, if your interviewer graduated in 1960, she wouldn’t be a good one to ask about current course offerings. She could, though, probably give excellent information about how Cornell can impact one’s career.
