<p>I know the title of this thread sounds like a bad spam email, but I was just looking through NYTimes archives for a school paper and came across this absolute gem, entitled ‘CANDID DOCTOR TELLS HOW TO MAKE MONEY’</p>

<p>This guy was telling people to ignore rich patients the most (ie play hard to get), advertise like crazy (have to beat the quacks), and to keep a close watch on what prescriptions people are taking from previous doctors (by conspiring with the druggist/pharmacist). It actually took me a little bit to realize that the article was from 1911, but when viewed in that light, some of the stuff is remarkably prescient (brand name drugs aren’t worth the trouble, good businessmen make more money than good doctors with no business-sense, etc).</p>
