For some reason I thought I could actually get some reasonable on this forum as opposed to somewhere like yahoo answers or something.

So before I start, I just wanted to say that I’m NOT one of those lonely people who sits around in her room all day waiting for someone to come over and say hi. I am actually a really social person, love being around people, and have quite a few friends here in college (I’m a second semester freshman). However, recently, I’ve been confronted with a new challenge (that I kind of created on my own, but am not sure how to approach it). Nearly two weeks ago, I went through sorority recruitment at my school, although I ended up dropping out and not joining any sorority for personal reasons, I’m still passionate about it and am doing again in the fall when it is informal.

Nevertheless, although I didn’t gain 40 new “sisters” I did meet a lot of people during rush who i genuinely liked, whether actives or recent pledges, that I want to continue hanging out with afterwards. Some have been easier to keep in touch with than others (I have classes/am in clubs with a few of them), but with a lot of people, I’ve realized that if i want to stay it touch with them, I have to make the initiative. But here’s the issue, I’ve never been in this position before, because friendships usually develop with people who you are around a lot, and don’t have to make an effort to see, etc.

I’ve gotten around to asking a few of the girls to grab lunch with me, which is totally casual and appropriate, but I’m not quite sure what to do after that to continue to stay in touch/hang out/possibly become friends. I don’t want to come off as annoying or needy or something, but I NEED these girls to have a good opinion of me, and I’ve decided that becoming friends with them will only help.

So my question is…what’s the next step? After I initiate and we go to lunch…and say it goes really well…should I wait 2 or 3 weeks and then casually ask again (assuming that they probably won’t ask me since we don’t know each other all that well)? Or is it better to hold off and try to suggest some other activity to them? Or do nothing completely?
I need to keep up connections with them, but as a girl myself, I know we tend to over-analyze these sorts of things and get annoyed quite easily unless it’s coming from both sides.
