How to outweigh a bad gpa?

Currently my gpa is bad. Just… Bad. 2.0, yep. I can’t say for sure but I’m striving to raise it to at least a 2.5 by the time I graduate (It’s a little late for me) But anyway, it’s my junior year and I’ll most likely be heading to community college for two years before I go to a real college or university. I’m staying in-state, and I’m in Virginia, and we have a lot of very good colleges and universities here. The highest I’m shooting is either JMU or GMU, possibly UMW, but it’s not like I’m going to bother trying to get into somewhere like UVA or William & Mary.

Despite my bad gpa, I have a very rigorous record and my grades should show a sharp increase this year. I’m taking 5 AP classes this year and 9 classes total, and my grades are A’s and B’s. Next year I’m taking 8 classes, 5 AP again. I also have two previous AP credits.

Each year I took the psat I was extremely close to the nmsqt and hopefully I can get it this year-- I’m feeling pretty confident about it. Even if not, I’m expecting my sat and act scores to be rather high.

But in any case, enough rambling. How can I offset a bad gpa?

At this point it is what it is! Your stats are pretty much solidified at this point! The only thing you can really do is just write a really great essay and get so stellar recs! GOod luck!
