How to prep for ACT Reading?

So English is not my first language and my reading is only 26… I need to boost it to at least 29 to make my composite 34. How do u guys prep for reading? Do u think just read a lot of books+do endless questions and analyze wrong questions enough? Thanks

Read a ****load. Hahaha practice speed reading as well.

I don’t care what people say, but underlining the question’s line numbers in the passage helps TREMENDOUSLY. The time wasted going back to the passage to examine the correct answer after reading the entire passage is not worth the time saved by being able to answer a question after having read a fresh section of the passage. underlining takes 30 seconds max. Rethinking and applying to 10 different questions will take you more than 30 seconds to reprocess than by answering them fresh.

Try some timed practice tests. This same method has increased my critical reading score a TON.

If this method doesn’t sound promising, at least give it a TRY.

For the rest of the questions without line numbers, try to grasp the tone/plot/context of the passage by reading through it in a brisk, but CONTROLLED manner.

Jimmypod, I don’t understand your underlining method…what exactly do you underline? Do you read the passage first or do you read a paragraph and then answer a question relating to it?

I guess I just mark a significant chunk of the passage if the question asks for it.

Then I read the passage at a controlled tempo, and once my eye sees the beginning of the marked section, I immediately focus more and attempt to answer the question once I am done reading 2-3 lines after the marked section.
