While I agree with everything that has been said above, I do want to say, for example a book I am collaboratively working with 20 other people in the Organization “Online Math Circle” creating free textbooks, as alternatives to the ridiculously priced AoPS Volume 1 and 2 Textbooks, and we plan on taking at most 6 months, but yeah 3 months is ridiculous. (PS writing in latex takes longer, since symbols are very meticulous and don’t just flow).

^Writing textbooks isn’t quite like writing fiction ;P

@BlackRose Writing isn’t always easy, though. It doesn’t always “just flow.” That’s a really rare gift, and if you do have that gift, then consider yourself really lucky (trying to legit sound complimentary here, haha). For a lot of writers, it’s damn hard work sometimes.

the OP never specified what type of book, but agreed, :)

and why not post it online, along with an Iphone app! It costs 99 bucks to become an iphone dev, and other than that there are zero fees, and you can perhaps make some money if your book is worthy any reading,

Check out blurb.com. You can reasonably publish a hardcover or paperback for your friends and family. You can also sell your book on their marketplace.

^^^
It’s hard work, yes. But the flow should be natural. I thought everyone could do it?

What do you mean “the flow?” Because all I’m saying is you don’t make tangible progress every day (although even if you delete something, that’s progress in a way). There are days where you don’t write at all, days where you write 10 pages, and days where you delete just as many.

Of course.
Not everyone can sit down for a day and type out 20 pages, unless it’s garbage (in some cases).

What i’m saying is that whatever you do write down should make sense, should capture the reader and be somewhat good.
When a personw writes I would think that the plot flows out of them as they write. If not as they write the novel, then it should be while they write whatever helps them write the novel…if that makes any sense. I hope it does.

Eh, I still feel like I disagree, just based off of conversations I’ve had with my mom about writing novels.

Each writer is going to be different. Can we just call it that?

I’m actually self published and I can tell you that it took me two months to write my 75k work novel. It was a Nanowrimo, so I spent one month writing and one month editing. It’s not very good, but I’m just proud that I actually got something out there. If your friends are just looking for that like I was, self publishing can work. There’s lot of sites out there for it.
