How to put my Study Abroad Experience in the App?

I went abroad for my junior year and it was a great experience and I think it would strengthen my application but there are two issues: a. where do I PUT it in my application? The misc comments? and b. It negatively impacted my GPA and class rank because my stupid school didn’t transfer my grades right. How would I mention this and would they even care :(?

additional comments section?

The additional comments section makes UC’s application quite amazing.
I wrote about how I loved my camera for awhile- then rambled on about the times I visited. At the time- I didn’t know if they’d read it all. I get the feeling they did cause they put me with an amazingly artistic (in photography- how coincidental!) roommate. So use this section as your fancy. They will read- may not like that they do extra work- but they will read it! Your concerns seem a bit more appropriate too.

I applied EA, and I had the same problem. I emailed my admissions counselor, and she said to try to put everything in the activities portion of the application and explain it if you need to in the extra comments section. So I ended up putting “AFS Summer Team Mission: China” in the activities part, then the maximum amount of hours/week that would fit, and then I explained what I did in the activities. If you feel that it was especially significant you might want to expand on it a little in the extra comments section - I did.

I think I will put it in the additional comments section. Thanks Unalove and DannonWater!

Fitchm, I went abroad with AFS too! I was considering China but it didn’t work out. Thanks for the advice :)
