I’m in Key Club right now and I’m doing tons of events at various locations for different organizations. How do I show those events and hours on my application? Should I talk about them in my essay? Thanks.

If you’re doing the common app, you could list “Key Club” or “Volunteering” as an EC, and then put “x hours over the past x years” in the corresponding awards/honors/positions box. Alternately, you could include a more detailed description in the Additional Info section, or write about it in the EC mini-essay.

You could also add a list of your different volunteer activities as an addendum to your application. My son was heavily involved in drama and muscic all through high school. Just putting “Drama Club” or “Youth Orchestra” on his app didn’t really seem to say much, so he added a resume. On the resume he listed all of his various in school and out of school music activities. He also listed each play he had been in the role he had. You could do something similar indicating the various volunteer activities you have done, hours for each, money raised if applicable, etc.
