How to raise SAT reading

Any tips? I keep doing practice tests and I get in the 400s. I got 500s once tho but just once. I had a 10 week tutoring program but in reality tutoring for SAT is not as effective as self studying. I started practicing with noitraperps SAT tips last week. Is there any way I can move up to at least a 600 by June? I get usually a 460-490 (500-540 once tho). Thanks.

Vocab flashcards

It might help you to figure out what types of questions you are getting wrong. Grammar, Vocab, whatever… Anyway…

One thing that might help is reading the newspaper. Especially something like the New York Times or Wall Street Journal. That can help with vocabulary and grammar. Also just being around professional writing will give you better understanding of the language. For the grammar sections, most people can just intuitively know what is wrong (you develop that by reading a lot).
If you had more time, I would recommend some novels[Gatsby, all the kings men, Jane Eyre, Farewell to Arms, Tale of two cities.].

One thing that helps for vocab is studying greek and latin roots, suffixes and prefixes.

Vocab lists are good, but when you do that, you need to look at roots and etymology to get the most bang for your time/buck.

Summary Read NYTimes for 40 minutes each day[grammar]. Find some lists of greek and latin roots (online should be fine)[vocab]. Vocab lists/ cards?

That how I got 750 :)

Time proven do-it-yourself method from CC’s very own Xiggi

Xiggi…that thing is amazing. The person who wrote that managed to make me realize so much and I think I know why it’s been harder for me to raise my score. The tips many teachers given me have apparently been incorrect. I do not blame them though as they are just trying to help and I appreciate they efforts, but I realize now several things holding me back :)
