This afternoon my neighbor came and ask me to help him to make a recording of a cable TV program and store it. It dawned on me after looking over his HD TV set that the HD TV had no Video Out connections! And I just realize my old VCR is not digital any more. Now, I am thinking, what takes to record a TV program now a days?

My thinking has been:

TV came with a DVDR.

DVR has a dvdr which can be used for dvd burning.

Install a digital TV tuner on PC and use the PC to record programs.

Any more suggestions?

There are VHS/DVD players/recorders out there. You can get them with a digital tuner and can record TV shows directly onto VHS tapes or DVDs. A coaxial cable from the cable box goes into the back of the player.

The VHS recorder I had came with coaxial cable connections, but the Comcast cable box didn’t have one…

You need one with a built in tuner. I am shopping for something to convert VHS tapes to DVD and did some research on the matter as the tuners make those particular products much more expensive, and for my purposes I really don’t need one.

So will a normal VCR not record TV shows anymore?

bowtie…

Yes, that is why the thread is about. I found no Video out connections (RCA or Coax) on the digital TV we have.
