Someone else will verify if I’m not correct.

First, your U.S. citizen son will need a U.S. Social security number.

Re: your income and taxes…you need to convert those to U.S. dollars for the purposes of filing the FAFSA and Profile.

If you are a citizen of another country working in THAT country, you do not have to file U.S. taxes here.

If you are not a US citizen, and do not hold permanent residence status in the US, and you aren’t currently living in the US, you do not have to file US taxes.

In order to file the FAFSA and CSS Profile for your child, you need to convert your income and savings into US dollars. Your child will need to use his/her own social security number, but you can use 000000000 if you don’t have a social security number. Your son will need to register with the Selective Service in order to qualify for federal financial aid.

You can help your son by reading through the information at [EducationUSA | Study Abroad, Student Visa, University Fairs, College Applications and Study in the U.S. / America](http://www.educationusa.state.gov/) Then make an appointment with the counselors at the advising center closest to where you live. They have experience helping students like your son find good places to study in the US.

Wishing you all the best!
