I have been a community college student since fall of 2015 and took fall of 2016 off to work. I was taking loans out for the Fall 2015 semester so that I could work less and focus on school while taking care of my family. I am finally transferring this fall to a university and want to resume my loans. Unfortunately, when I took spring and summer classes this fall at the community college, I inquired with financial aid as to how I could resume the loans and was met with the response “We don’t handle loans”. I can’t find anything online in regards to my situation. If anyone has any insight I would really appreciate it. I just want to resume the loans to be able to pay the outrageous university fees.
What university are you transferring to? Is the 4 year university all online? Is it for profit? What is your major? Did you submit the FAFSA for the 4 year university?
Some schools do not participate in the federal student loan program. If this school doesn’t participate, you can’t get loans.
Arizona State University and I’m getting a Bachelor of Science degree in Sustainability. I already submitted my FASFA. I just want to know how to contact my previous student loan provider to resume the loans, since they stopped when I took a semester off.
Are you talking about federal loans? Those are administered through your college or university. You need to contact the financial aid office where you are studying to find out which loans you are eligible for this year.
If you had private loans, then you need to contact your bank ourself.
ASU will have you sign a new master promissory note with ASU. They will notify the servicer of your existing loans that you are in school so they will go into deferment.
