How to review mistakes for the SAT reading and writing sections?

Hello All,

I was wondering how to properly review incorrect SAT reading and writing questions or you can explain how you reviewed your incorrect SAT questions. Thanks!

SAT and ACT are committed to test security. Therefore, you will not receive a copy of your exam so you can review incorrect responses. You will not see those items again. Your next SAT will be different in items and content.

Looking at missed items is a good plan that can be accomplished with practice tests.

@zannah , that’s not entirely correct. You can order the QAS service from SAT, which will give you your original test and answers. It takes several months to get it back, and is only available for certain tests. I don’t beleive ACT offers a similar service.

We ordered the QAS service for the March test and got the questions and answers at the same time as the scores.

@kokotg not the actual paper test.

@Lindagaf It was on the computer, but it gave him all the questions, the correct answers, and his answers. I wasn’t expecting to get the actual paper test; I don’t see why he would need it.

Yes, I am aware that the test is in the computer. There is also the option of getting back the paper test, which can take months.

I was just clarifying that, if you’re interested in seeing all the questions missed and going over them, you can get them in about 2 weeks along with the score. I’m sorry if I misread, but it sounded to me like you were saying it wouldn’t be possible to see and review the test questions for several months (which, of course, would make a big difference to someone interested in preparing for the next SAT).

@kokotg @Lindagaf @zannah What I’m referring to is how to review incorrect answers…when you got a question wrong how did you review it, so you understood your mistake.

@Aconcernedllad I basically looked at the questions that I got wrong and wrote down the standard tested in which I got the most wrong. For example, if I figured out that 30% of what I get wrong is on statistical analysis and calculations, I focus on that for a period of time until I improve. When reviewing each question, I first look at the correct answer and try to think of the correct reasoning to get to that correct answer. After learning that, I try to put myself back into by testing mode and try to remember my reasoning process during the test (which was wrong). I do like a side-by-side chart and compare the two reasonings. Then, I can often find the mistake (such as a wrong approach to the problem to begin with, or a mere mathematical error due to pressure in testing).
