How to select the right Decal Class?

I have heard of many students doing too much work for decal classes and some students barely doing any work. How do you go about selecting the right Decal classes? Many of syllabuses do not tell much about the workload of the course…

Go to facebook or forums like CC and ask people about them? Email the teachers? (Concerning the workload.)

How much are you interested in the subject? Is it mild curiosity or full-blown fangirl-ism?

I’m taking the Harry Potter one (if I get in) and it seems like a lot of work time-wise, but I enjoy the subject so much that working on a final project will seem more like fun instead of homework.

Mine will be a little bit of work (that is, if I can get through the red tape – it was already approved but my sponsoring professor has had to bow out of teaching this semester). I’m going in tomorrow to see what can be done. The DeCal is called “Ireland: A History of ‘The Troubles’ in Film”. It’ll be a 2-unit course. 3-hours once per week (1 hour of discussion and 2 hours of film). There’s also a reading component (requirement of the department). But no final paper… just group presentations (film scene v. primary document analysis, historical Jeopardy game, student films, etc). Look for it if it interests you.

Why make so much work out of a program that’s supposed to be fun?

I really wanted to do the Harry Potter one, but my Chem lab conflicts. My other choice was the History of the Beatles one that seemed pretty laid back, but I added another breadth instead

@ clear my mind> It was a departmental requirement. I would have preferred a film discussion, but was told that it might degenerate into a standard film course instead of a history-based one.
