How to start?

Hey everyone,

This is my first post. :)

I’m going to take my SAT I this year in September. I was wondering What the best ways would be to start off with this? (any book recommendations, resources etc…?) I took the CollegeBoard online course, took their pretest and got a 2160. Maths 800, CR 630, W 730.

I’ve spotted my weak areas with the help of that test and am going to work on them.

Apart from that, I’d also like to ask you Which colleges should I target based on these stats:

GPA 4.0 Unweighted.

I’m pretty sure I’ll get awesome recommendations.

Rank - Top 5 out of 120.

EC’s:

– MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer)
– Am proficient with most of the computer languages; C, C++, Java as well as web languages such as PHP, ASP.NET, XML, JS, Ajax, XML and basically anything that goes on the backend online.
– Have lots of certificates in Science fairs, olympiads, Quizzes, debates etc blah blah.
– Own an online business which I started last year, and is on the verge of breaking six figures an year. I’m trying to push it to get at least 5 times bigger than what it is today.
– School Captain etc.

(Now, I won’t include this, but maybe a tangible book by the end of this year)

Those are the main ones, I have a few others which I don’t think are worth including.

I’m pretty much inclined to pursue Marketing under Business Management. That’s my forte, and I’ve some experience behind me. I’d be interested to know which US colleges should be on my list…

Thanks a lot!

I’m not the authority on specific colleges so I can’t recommend specifics to you, but you’re obviously gong to be aiming for some of the highest tier schools.

The only book I would recommend to use for studying for the SAT is the
Official SAT Study Guide from the college board (Called blue book or BB around) here.

Some people find other books useful such as Princeton Review, Barrons, Kaplan, Grubers, Rocket Review

Make sure to only take practice tests that come from the blue book though.

With the surge of applicants we saw this year, its gonna be harder and harder to get into top colleges.

How old are you??
I barely found time to get me through the basics of Java, PHP, C++, C#, ActionScript, and HTML.

and this:

Why do you need to study anyway?? 6 figures is enough
just kiddin

I’m 17. Um, well this might sound like some stereo-type but I’m not doing this to get a Job, but rather to study at the places where I’ll get people who are very good brains in their businesses. :)

And what exactly is your online business? :P

If you write a book or even a published essay of your day to day life, I’d read it. I would love to know how you can manage ALL of that.

Hey,

My business involves around Website Flipping, CPA (Cost Per Action) via PPC and some other affiliate stuff. I’m not going into the nuts and bolts of my business but here’s a very quick detail of what I do:

– Sell startup websites that I create everyday (I outsource most of the tasks so to ensure I don’t kill my time) at Sitepoint marketplace (Google is you don’t know bout’ it) and to my list of buyers I’ve with aweber. These easily fund $100 a day - 1 site can sell for $200 and it takes me $100 approximately to outsource all the work (domain name + content + design customization = $8 + $30 + $20 = $58 and some random stuff like Keyword research etc I sometimes add to my websites to increase the perceived value). I price them at $197 or so and sell 'em.

– Sell some established websites. For an example, I setup a membership website where I can (easily) get 20 members paying $24.95 a month each or something like that. That’s $500 a month. After a month or a couple I’ll sell it for $5,000. For more market trends, you’ll need to look through the website marketplaces. It accounts for like $2,000 a month on an average.

– CPA i.e. cost per action. It pays you when someone uses your affiliate ID and performs an action, not necessarily buying, but like filling forms, giving zip codes, emails, names, phone numbers etc etc. This thing is very high paying and though I’ve not been into this for a very long time, I’m at around $150 a day with this. 20 people fill out for you and you get that much. How do you get people? PPC ads with Google. Ye see all those “Sponsored links with Google”!

– Affiliate Marketing - Um, this is conventional kind of aff marketing where I cut commission when someone buys someone else’s products through MY links. Targeting the proper market, and driving targeted traffic, ain’t all that hard to make sales. We, as students, don’t buy much but there is a vast majority of people who buy info products on the Internet.

– My Product Launches - For example, FlipNinja.com. Look at the first page, says coming soon. That’s because there’s backend work goin’ on at flipninja.com/amember. I don’t do much of these but these account for an odd couple grands every now and then.

So there you go, $3,000 + $2,000 + $4,500 + $1,000 + $2,000 = Approximately $12,000 a month. I rounded off, so you can reduce or increase a bit. That’s a very basic layout, a lot of stuff goes inside like the upsells (if you’ve ever bought a domain name from Godaddy, you’ll know what it is :stuck_out_tongue: )

@Monoclide – Sure, I’ll let you know if I complete that one. :)

But maintaining all that is not hard when you,

1) outsource a lot;
2) have set schedule and follow it strictly;
3) absolutely “work” when you “work”, no distractions, nothing at all. :)

@ Error, whats your name duude i do not think you are real.
