Late night. Lots of homework. Eyelids heavy. Feeling alone.

How to stay awake: Listen to political debates in another language.

I find the quickest way for me to fall asleep is for me to feel cut off from the rest of the world. The debates remedy that. However, if I can understand them, the effect is ruined because they wind up distracting me. So, I listen to ones that I don’t understand. Best one I’ve ever found:

How to stay awake: Get enough sleep in the first place.

That way you’ll be more effective at doing whatever work you’re doing.

For context: I once took an IQ test on three hours of sleep. My score was forty points lower than my well-rested score. (Granted, I’d also taken the test twelve years later, but that shouldn’t make that much of a difference.)

ADDERALL! or, IK says modafinil is better. idk, i’m afraid to try either one. but if you need to stay up once in a while (don’t become dependent) they are good

eh, I issue disclaimers with such recommendations (there are other CCers who will issue such recs but they won’t issue disclaimers with them).

it’s likely they’ll hear about them sooner or later anyhow

actually modafinil is far safer than adderall is anyways (but you’re more likely to hear about the latter). though modafinil isn’t a guarantee, since i’ve fallen asleep on doses as high as 200 mg…

the risks: increased blood pressure and increased glucose tolerance are similar to those in sleep-deprived people. but i practice calorie restriction so i don’t need to worry about those as much. ^_^

i learned about modafinil through browsing the caltech forums anyhow :p

==
and here’s something more potent than modafinil (in development)

but theres only one thing and its time management.
unless you can somehow get those caffien pills and start showering in caffinated soap, which is totally viable but not for long term use.
