How to study better?

Most of the people here (if no one is lieing) get’s 2000+ on their SAT’s and PSAT’s. I got a combined 1600/2400 on my PSAT’s and didn’t take SAT’s yet so I’m not a genius and I just need to really do better.

SAT, I’m doing the prep and taking practice tests so I don’t have a problem with that but regular classes (GPA) I need to work on. I’m taking mostly Honors/AP so it’s bringing down my GPA and it’s not fair compared to the people taking all electives with high GPA’s.

So I really need to bump up my study skills. And I just realized. I don’t really study. I pay attention in class and take some notes and pull C’s and B’s with no studying.

How do I study? It might sound stupid but it’s a serious question.

Everyone has a different method of studying, for example: I learn from doing problem, I really pay much attention to classes, I just do my hwmk. My friend prefer to read the book, every chapter, he is an exchange foreign student with 7 AP classes, and he is pulling all A’s so far.

My methods were not working so well, I am taking 4 AP and 1 honor. My weighted GPA last semester was 4.0, not so good. So I started reading and understanding the book; however, it definitely takes a bunch of my time but helps.

It depends what subject you’re studying for. English/History you should review/re-read the information you’re being tested on the night before. Oh wait, you have AP’s…you should review/re-read the information every night. It’s the only way you can retain so much information. For math…you’re on your own, there are too many methods, find one that works.

For AP Biology specifically. I review my notes everynight and the 2 nights before the test I study everything about 3-4 hours and I’m still getting F’s (highest grade was a 68 for me) on all my tests. I definitely don’t enjoy the subject but I try my hardest to study.
