HOW to study for Physics C

I’m self studying for Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism. I’m not in a Calculus class, so I have to teach myself a little calculus too. Is there any strategies out there that help ideas stick in your head? So far I’ve just been reading my PR book and doing practice problems, but I’m having trouble learning how to apply the stuff in the book to the questions they ask. I have a calculus textbook as well, and have been doing problems out of it. But when a calculus based physics question comes up in the PR book, I have no idea how to go around solving it. Am I doing something wrong, or do I just need to study the concepts more?
