How to study powerpoint lectures?

I’m a U0 science student at McGill. For all my powerpoint classes (which is almost all of them), I used to write out the powerpoint and my class notes onto a “study guide” so I could make connections and develop some sort of a hierarchal sense out of the slides. Then I would just study right off of my study guide.

But that proved to be a very time-consuming method so I eventually resorted to just memorizing the slides. But then I feel like I’m memorizing pieces of information rather than looking at the whole picture. How do you guys study powerpoint lectures? Any help?
