I am intl student (Indian). I go to a top 50 engineering pvt university (NY) because they gave me aid.
However, I want to transfer to Cornell and wish to transfer with aid.
The requirements page say successful applicants do intro to circuits or some sophomore course as such. But due to the way the courses are structured here in my uni, I’m able to take only 15 credits in the first semester and 18 in the next. (18 max). Since I didn’t take AP, I won’t be able to take the sophomore courses.
Assuming I get a 4/4 GPA, my essays, my ecs and recs are solid, am I still at a disadvantage?
In short, HOW DO I TRANSFER TO CORNELL?
SAT Subject- Perfect Score (Math L2, Physics)
SAT- 760M, 650CR (doesn’t matter for transfer?)
High School - 9.8/10 (9th and 10th), 96% 11th, 97% 12th
Please help
As an international student you won’t get much aid. Cornell engineering also has a lot of requirements, unless all of your courses taken can be transferred, you maybe looking at longer than 4 yrs to graduate.
FA for international transfer students is even rarer and harder to get than it is for international freshman applicants . you should plan on staying put and be grateful that you received any aid at all .
Officers there told me that they will be able to provide aid to me (e-mailed them). So that’s not a problem. Please answer the question…
For transfer applicants still in their freshman/sophomore year, SAT scores matter, which hurts your chances. If Cornell requires a certain course, see if you can talk to the registrar’s office about taking it at your college-it’s much easier to make special arrangements than you’d think.
With that said, transfer acceptance rates at the Ivies are very low, and you almost certainly won’t get aid even if you succeed in transferring.
If you’re at a top 50 school, worry less about transferring and more about doing well and going to a good graduate school in 4 years’ time. Grad schools would rather have an A student from (insert top 40/50 school here) than a B student from Stanford.
I have made my mind up to transfer.I want to know what else to do in order to maximise my chances. What should be my ACT score which I’m going to take for the first time for an ivy league (Columbia, Penn, Cornell) engineering transfer assuming that I have the other stats as listed above
honey, you dont get it…
colleges dont look at new ACT/ SAT scores when evaluating transfer applications.
ACT and SAT scores are only taken under consideration for Freshman applicants.
Its too late to take them now.
Transfer admission officers look closely at your COLLEGE record- GPA, classes taken, Letters of recommendation from Professors, research, etc, etc as well as your HS transcript.
you can try to transfer UP to a more prestigious college, as many try to do each year, but dont assume you will be successful, as there are FAR fewer openings for transfer students than for Freshman at the colleges you listed.
you may not like the answer, but its the truth…
How come they ask for us to send the scores then?
