I’m from Beijing, China, and will be attending Univeristy at Buffalo, SUNY as a freshman. I started my college application late so that there wasn’t plenty of time for me to get perfectly-written essays and wonderful test scores.

Here is a brief review of my credentials:
Secondary School: Beijing No.4 School-the most prestigious one in China.
GPA: around 94 on a 100 scale.
Best Rank: Top5 out of 500.
Academic Awards: Various Awards of Subject Competitions on Math, Physics, Chemistry and Bio.
Tests: 08/19/2006 TOEFL: 623 (TWE 4.5);
11/04/2006 SAT I: Verbal:530 Writing:630 (Essay 9) Math: 790
12/02/2006 SAT II: 800 for Math II, Physics and Chemistry
Activities: Class President; Varsity Soccer; Leader of Class Volunteer
Activities; Calligraphy.

I plan to take GRE this Oct and later SAT I again.

Would u please offer me some suggestions on my future planning to transfer to IVY? Your advice will be highly appreciated!

Get a high GPA wherever you go.

Try and raise your SATs at least another 200 points.

Why are you taking the GRE already?

I will try my best to remain my GPA on 4.0, if possible

With increasing reading in English, I will aim at a higher SAT socre.

The GRE has a valid time of 5 years, right? So I put it as a solid background for both trasfering and applying to graduate school.

You transfer from UC Riverside to HMC? What about the financial aid of HMC? I know that it’s a smart school with very very strong science and engineering programs!!

dude if you are from china
your SAT doesn’t really matter that much,
Go get tons of prizes in the areas that you are good at,
By the way, you can easily be the smartest student in Buffalo
what major are you doing?

You’re wasting your time taking the GRE now, in my opinion. It won’t matter much for transfer admissions. Wait until you can do better on it and use it for grad school only.

If you rank 5/500 at No 4 high school, why would you go to bufflo? I m sure you could just go to qinghua for undergrad and come here for grad school. Also note, a lot of schools don’t give fin aid to international transfers, so that might be a problem.

The reason for not going to qinghua is that I wonna receive western education instead of Chinese education where the value orientation is too simplex-aiming only at grades! In addition, I think that being a graduate in the U.S is much like being a employee of the professor: earning 40,000+USD financial aid but gaining perhaps 4,000,000+USD for the program… I simply want to enjoy another education style and the great diversity in the U.S. The only problem is that I began a little bit late so that I didn’t do well enough in my college application. Yet I believe that I will find the right place finally!
