How can a student who is passionate about a certain topic, culture, language, etc. capture that passion and translate it into something tangible? For example my son is extremely passionate about Japanese and Korean culture and language. He would not mind doing any extra curricular activity related to Japan or SKorea (we dont have language courses nearby so he taught himself). What extra curricular activity can he do that will allow him to stand out?

He could create a Japanese/Korean awareness/student association club at his school. You might want to look into any summer camps/programs that focus around this interest as well. Could also start up some sort of fundraiser for Japanese earthquake victims. That doesn’t get much attention these days, though I’m sure they could still use some help.

Sports also, he can do Taekwando, Karate, Judo, Kendo…

Or he can find a local community that has Japanese/Korean people, and help them out!
