How to travel from Newark Airport to NY city?

Is the Newark airport is connected to NY city by bus service or metro?

Yes. There are buses available right to midtown Manhattan.

In addition to the buses, the airport rail will take you directly from your terminal to the NJ Transit stop, where you can catch a train into Penn Station for about $15.

Thanks a lot folks. I am greying very quickly to figure this trip out.

I live in Manhattan, and prefer to use Newark Airport in part because it is so easy to get to and from there via NJ Transit. Here is everything you need to know: [Welcome to AirTrain Newark](http://www.panynj.gov/AIRTRAINNEWARK/).

You will be subject to traffic going into Manhattan if you take a bus. Depending on when you will arrive at EWR, you’re forewarned about that risk. I never take this unless it’s 5am or 10p. $15 - goes to various points on 42nd St.

Fastest - Airtrain within the airport to the rail station, $15 NJTransit or Amtrak train to Penn Station - 25-30 min.

Absolute Cheapest - Bus 62 to Newark Penn Station ($1.35, far from clean, 20 min), 1 PATH to World Trade Center or 2 PATH trains to midtown (change along the way) ($1.75) - $3.10 total, may take 80-90 min. total.

You can also do in-between - Airtrain, train to Newark PATH ($5), then PATH for $6.75 total

The advantage of a bus is that you don’t have to handle your luggage till you reach Penn Station in NY.

what bus doesn’t have you handle your luggage? The buses to the port authority are just NJtransit buses. The air train is far far easier, and more reliable.

Buses that go from Newark Airport to Port Authority have luggage compartments. Once your bags are stowed, you don’t have to handle them till you get there.

Do NJ transit buses have luggage compartments ?

Not all Path stations are handicap accessible, meaning no escalators or elevators so you have to carry your bag up flights of stairs.
