how to use coach letter of recommendation?

Yesterday we received an unsolicited letter of recommendation from a coach that my son worked with the last 2 summers on a supplemental team. He praises my son’s athletic skills, team work, and coachability. While very flattered, we’re not really sure what to do with it at this point. How do we use this letter? Post it on his recruiting website? Send it to college coaches? Wait for a coach to ask for letters of recommendation?

Son is a 2015 grad with no significant interest from any particular school yet. We are targeting about 30 schools - mostly D3.

Thanks!

Does your son have an on line recruiting profile? Many recruits have one, where they embed a link to their skills video and to coaches’ endorsements. If he does not have one, you should consider setting one up because it is an easy way to direct coaches to all the relevant info about him. When you email coaches you can include a hyperlink to the profile.

We have one on berecruited.com. The letter I have came as a pdf attachment so I’m not sure what the best way to highlight it would be. Maybe post as a photo? Thanks!

I hope you don’t mind my cynicism, but have you checked with whom you think the writer is? If the letter is genuine, then at least you won’t have to worry about anyone accusing your S of using a fake letter of recommendation. There are times when I certainly look a gift horse in the mouth, and if this were received by my S, I certainly would. If it is genuine, and I were you, I would get my S to email it to the coaches that he is currently talking to - as an attachment, as well as putting it on his recruiting site. Good luck.

Yes - the letter is real. We know the coach well. Son plays high school and club - but this coach worked with him for 2 summers preparing and attending an out of state tournament. The team was put together for this one tournament only. We will probably ask the high school and club coach for letters when we figure out the appropriate time to do so, but hadn’t considered asking this coach for a letter since he hadn’t worked with my son as much as the others had.

Thanks for the advice! We’ll start sharing the letter!
