How to wear graduation gown-rope belts?

S had baccalaureate mass practice today and brought home his graduation gown. There are two rope-like belts with it, and I can’t figure out how he wears them. One is gold with tassel fringes on the ends. The other is two ropes intertwined, one royal blue and one gold, with four tassels on the end (2 blue and 2 gold). The graduation gown is red and the mortarboard is red. The school colors are red and gold. There are no instructions on what to do with these belts. Any ideas?

At my school they were worn around the neck. I’m sure as all the graduates get together before the ceremony it’ll be figured out.

Sounds like they are honors cords - worn around the neck and draped down the front - like a tailor wears his tape measure when he’s not using it!

They are honors cords - worn around the neck with tassels in front hanging down the gown. NHS students usually get them.

Thanks! I knew they had something to do with honors, just wasn’t sure how they were worn.
