how to write a reject letter to UC?

Hi guys!
I’ve accepted both UCSD and UCSB Offers because I can’t decide which one I should go to. Now I decide…but does anyone know how to write an appropriate email to inform them that I won’t go to their school? Do I need to state a reason? Or should I just tell them that I won’t enroll?

Most of the UCs have an online form that you fill out; I know UCSD had it in the portal. There is usually no need to send an email.

^Right, but just in case:

To whom it may concern,

I am writing to ask for my SIR to be rescinded at UCXX. I am immeasurably grateful for the opportunity to attend your wonderful school. I understand that my deposit will not be refunded. Is there anything else I should do to ensure that my SIR is withdrawn?

With sincerest thanks,
(your name)

I rescinded my SIR to UCSB, and I have a friend who rescinded his SIR to UCSD. In order to do so, you would go to the portal of the school that you don’t wish to attend and under the SIR decision, you would select the option that you don’t wish to enroll at that given university. Unless you’ve been in direct contact with an admissions officer about your decision, there would be no need to send an email/letter.

There’s typically no need to write an email or anything too personalized. Simply select the proper option in the online forms, and they’re going to essentially check a box next to your name saying that you’re not attending, and that will basically be the end of it.

In the event that this doesn’t work, something simple and straight to the point is best.

Dear ________,

I’m honored to be offered a position at __________ University, but I have decided that __________ University is a better fit for me. Accordingly, I am not accepting my offer of admission, and will not be attending _______ University.

Thank you,

It really doesn’t need to be anything more than that. You don’t need a reason. They can’t force you to attend. The only relevant reason here is that you’ve decided to attend somewhere else.

Save the stamp, don’t write anything, just reject on the portal.

You don’t have to send a letter. Usually you can do it online. If you have to email them simply say unfortunately I need to withdraw. Thank you for considering me.

thanks for helping. I don’t see any bottom that I can cancel it online directly, but I find a form about the withdraw from school, maybe I just need to fill it out and mail it to the university.

Yes, you can do that.

If you’re unsure, then contact someone in admissions. They will be able to tell you exactly what you need to do.

There really is no need to provide any kind of explanation though. If you do provide one, keep it short. Like 2-3 sentences.
