How do they use the Writing score of the ACT?

“How do they use the Writing score of the ACT?”

In my opinion, they don’t. Unless your score is horrendously bad, I think the ACT writing section has minimal effect with top colleges. They can, after all, assess how well you write through your admissions essays.

What is considered a horrendously bad score?

Just don’t get anything below an 8.

You can determine how the colleges in which you’re interested use the ACT with Writing by going to section C of the Common Data Set for each college and viewing their policies. You can find the CDS by searching the internet along with the school name, or by using the CC links on another thread.
