How u ever been a guard dog for your parents?

When they screw something up themselves would they blame that on you if you were at that time with them?

If you went to college and away from home, how does it feel to be finally free?

How do you deal with parents like that?

I just simply try to ignore that most of the time or sometimes defend myself if I really need to.

Other than that, it is one of the main reasons I am not in close relationship with my parents. For a guidance related to my major decisions in my life I have always turned more likely to strangers than them due to my perception of their judgment.

How about you?

For me, it wasn’t when they screwed up, but more when my little brothers and sisters screwed up. And it was typically my father who would do the blaming, or older brothers and sisters (who also acted as guardians to me). I ignored a lot of it and tried being busy all of the time to never be home. I don’t hate my family at all, but it feels a lot better to do schoolwork at school than to be lectured at. I think I will feel pretty liberated. I can concentrate on my grades instead of my younger siblings’.

good luck in college :)

I wonder if anyone else here in forum, had mom forcing you to go to church and telling things like “mmm, if you changed your religion, I’d deny having son like that to everybody”.

With my mom being traditional Polish it won’t change. Many people put in charge of leadrship in Poland I knew I realize were very hypocritical. I remember in religion class, priest making kids stand up whole our for not paying attention to mass’ lecture.

Ya know, what a “great” attitude. I am sure, if I was there I would tell him this story…

"Satan came to God and asked Him, - How much does it make you happy to get your new followers using force, fear and punishment on them. lol

Well I am glad I don’t live there anymore but wish my mother was never taking that with her and saw how this is backward and not very moral.

Since coyote brought up the issue with religion, I must say that it’s been quite annoying living with parents who are very religious. There’s obviously nothing they can do about it without being hypocritical, but obviously that never stops them…

That was so incoherent, I really don’t understand what you’re trying to say. Are you in college or HS?

Tiff, what I am trying to find out is this common only within immigrant communities or is it also Americans that parents, especially mother threatens you if you turn out to be “bad boy” for skipping Sundays.

Anyway, whats scarier is my mother was teacher in my primary school where I grew up and kids did not like her.

My father is not religious but he left when I was 2 years old and I did not get to know him until I turned 17 when I got green card. We never established close relationship, he doesn’t do fishing or any stuff like that, impossible to help him with housework since he’s crazy and yells when he looses something himself.

I was “happy” when I was away from them at college and will be again “happy” once I move out permanently, if I will be able to with my future income and expenses. Right now I just graduated and I am continuing studying for certifications and looking for a job.

You are wondering if other people’s mother’s get upset when they do something wrong?

no nothing wrong, just they turn out to her eyes not as religious as her

Btw in second year, I tried to get health insurance from school to enroll in chiropractic service to help with my posture and skoliosis. Nothing boost more confidence that looking better, more attractive and handsome. At that time I was not making enough money and did not want to borrow extra student loan to cover it, so I asked my mother she said no. But few months later she remodeled my room with new furnitures because she was tired of looking at old one.

Now with my leaking aortal heart valve (BAV) (which through doctor’s orders prevents me from heavy weightlifting :frowning: ) , I would not have to worry about figuring out how to pay for MRI scan. I have my own private health insurance but its cheap and has high deductible. Now I have to wait for a better coverage after I find a job.

She does not know that I am in a little serious condition requiring a better look, if I told her, she would be blaming me for going to gym, etc etc instead being emotionally supportive.

I think I am little going off the topic, but here is my 2 cents.
