I’m thinking of working towards a Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certificate this summer so that in the future, I can travel around the world and make money at the same time. I was just wondering how useful and important getting this certificate is because you have to pay around $1000 for the classes.

post this in a more suitable forum. useful towards WHAT? college admissions? if it’s college admissions, you should re-post this in the college admissions forum.

Useful for getting jobs obviously…

This is a perfectly suitable place for this conversation, mj93…

nbachris2788,

It depends on where you want to go. For most jobs in Japan, for example, it’s relatively unimportant. It may matter more in Europe, however, where I suspect their standards for English teaching are more rigorous.

oh, sorry. not obvious to me :P

Now, if this were, say, the admissions forum, I’d agree. But since this is actually just the cafe, it’s not a big deal. I mean, he’s not likely to get a wealth of information here, but it’s not a terrible idea to ask. Plenty of people around these parts have experience with teaching.
