I completely agree that one shouldn’t lie about it. It’s a good thing Harvard doesn’t penalize an applicant for telling the truth about that.

it really has nothing to do with lying. its an opinion question. if an apple-seller was interviewing me for a job at his apple-shop and he asked me if i liked apples or oranges more… i would tell him i liked apples. (whether i liked the rival orange store or not).

if a USC medical school asked me if USC or UCLA was my fisrt choice. i would tell him its USC.

Demonstrated intrest should count.

Does the interview really count for nothing? I had such a great interview…my interviewer was so engaged in our conversation that she canceled plans afterward and she bought be a drink (even though I begged her not to and offered to pay her back to no avail…) because the conversation lasted for so long. I learned a lot and she seemed very impressed. I would say the best college interview I have ever had!

I think the interview counts for more if your on the fence. A great interview can push you over the top. Still, I’ve heard of people with terrible interviews that were still accepted. I guess “if they want you - they want you.” But since everyone doesn’t get an interview, interviews cannot hold much weight, because that would just be unfair to those who don’t get them.

I agree. Whenever an interviewer asks me what my top choice is, i say their school. It’s a PR thing ya know, it could possibly earn you some extra points in their book. Still, it probably won’t have an affect you are honest and tell them its not your top choice.

We talked about my charity work through a faith based organization. She said that was a shame because she was Atheist.

…Wow

^ u should report her. i have no respect for those hegemons.

I am completely surprised. Her comment was obviously unwarranted and discriminatory.

Maybe it was a joke? lol
Ok, not a very funny joke to pull during a Harvard interview…
sorry that sucks, I’d be pretty upset if that happened to me.
I’m sure she won’t let religion affect your report though

I was kind of upset about it, but my interview was like a month and a half ago, and maybe that was just her personality? Idk…I figured they were probably uber busy and had better things to worry about.

I think it went well. I just discussed my activities, awards, and academic interests. I think the interviewer was impressed.

Augustaguurl, I was under the impression that it is a waste of a first choice selection to list a school that does not participate in NM (Princeton) as your first choice. Unless of course, you r not applying to any colleges that participate in NM. Am I understanding this wrong?

Here’s a link to a thread about it…

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/national-merit-scholarships/864621-first-choice-college-notification.html

Well, I’m not going/applying to any of the schools that have offered me full tuition. and I don’t regret putting Princeton. I already have scholarships if money is an issue, and hopefully (as cynical as others may be) maybe it will push me over the edge for Princeton. As I’m not an admissions officer, I can’t know for sure. But I don’t regret it.

^ You can change your college of choice for NM if you like. So putting Princeton is not a big deal.

it was so awkward. the lady was just like my awkward earth science teacher i had in 9th grade. no thanks.

I was contacted for an interview yesterday, which surprised me a bit I thought the interview season was over and had put interviews out of my mind.

…Is interview season over? Does it mean anything that I was contacted so late for an interview? (Am I over-thinking?)

Thanks in advance for any replies =]

Interview season is not over. I just had an interview on Sunday. Sometimes scheduling conflicts cause delays. That you were contacted late in the season for an interview has no relevance to the merits of your application. Believe me, the people working hard to schedule these 30,000+ interviews are not thinking of the assignments in that way.

@Sehnsuchtting

Browniebaker is right. I just received another interview assignment–probably last minute reassignment over the weekend–and I’ve yet to contact the applicant since I was out of town. Sit tight everyone. We’re in the final stretch.

I’ve interviewed applicants as late as mid March.
