How was your Harvard interview?

Thank you for the clarifications!

windcloudultra: are you interviewing for northern NJ (07 zips)? both the southern and northen parts of NJ have a bunch of students not yet scheduled, so it’s great you can help out. I have 6 more interviews this week from interviewers who didn’t do their job, so thanks again!

I just got assigned a new interview yesterday because of another interviewer’s scheduling conflicts.

Hey dar5995,

Yeah I’m doing interviews in Jersey! Don’t want to give too much away to the applicants on this site  I can’t believe you have 6 more. I’m having enough trouble writing 3-4 good reports. Maybe I’m just too nit-picky; I’ll get better at writing these. Still rather new to all this.

Nonetheless, it’s been really fun! Everyone’s been really impressive thus far.

so glad to hear that. yes, there are so many impressive kids. the new form is a big improvement. I wish I had 10 more interviewers like you! good luck on the reports. I have to keep reminding myself there are no prizes for great prose, but lots of appreciation for timely reports!

My D had her interview last week. Almost 2 hours long. Extremely thorough.

My interview is tomorrow at the alum’s house! Wonder if it’ll be a mansion with Ferrari’s parked out front lol.

Wish me luck :)

I had mine a few weeks ago. Oddly enough, they requested my transcript, SAT, and ACT scores previous to coordinating the interview. But the interviewer was very amiable - he was a Economics professor at the University of the Pacific, so I was unsure of how he was going to be. I don’t remember much from the interview to tell the truth…it lasted about an hour and a half. I remember we talked about the problems with public schools, particularly, of course, with economics teachers and the like. I was pretty rad, I think, but very much unlike my Dartmouth interview. This interview was, as seems common, more ‘informative’ than an interview. Yupp.

my interview was interesting to say the least.

The interviewer forgot he had to interview me. not very nice of him. he had to be called and he came then. plus it was too short but at the same time he didnot prepare any questions so he just randomly babbled on. so the questions were hard.

but at the same time, he was the intervier whose personality i liked. Like for real lets face it: interviews are not important, they are just another facet of the application process that admissions committee like to look u at thru their lens.

im glad he felt the interview was not too important by forgetting about it. the good thing is he probably felt a bit bad and bumped me a few points up!

hi,

i read the post Northstarmom made about international applicants and her guess that Harvard interviews potential international candidates

at my school (i live in canada), about 10 people applied to Harvard, but only 3 have gotten interviews so far…

i know i really shouldn’t be looking so much into this, but i’m very curious- do you think that it means anything that only 3 out of 10 people have gotten Harvard interviews?

as a general question, would anyone be able to explain more about interviews for international applicants?

I just did mine today :)

I’m from the UK so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I knew it would be different to the oxbridge style interviews but I didn’t know how different.

Overall, I think it went really well, but then again most people on here also think their interview went well. The guy who interviewed me was really friendly and likeable. We talked about the school system in the UK, Harvard, America in general and current affairs. It lasted for about an hour. Surprisingly, he didn’t really ask me about my academic subjects and didn’t mention any of my extra-curricular activites.

do you have to request an interview or does a harvard alum contact you after you submit your app?

I was contacted by an alum about a week after submitting my application. No request needed, but you will only be contacted if there is an alumni interviewing committee in your area.

I also asked this on the Hopefuls thread.

I’m sorry if this has been asked before, but…

How did you guys answer that question on the supplement which asks:

"Have you had or have you scheduled an admissions interview? "

Yes
No - but I plan to do so.
No

I mean how would anyone have scheduled an interview before submitting this? did everyone just say “No” and explained that you weren’t contacted/didn’t contact for an interview because you didn’t submit the application first?

i’m utterly confused… Someone help me!

Few days ago I got an interview. It went well.

However the interviewer wanted to take my transcript, my SAT scores, copies of my Common Application and essays. I said OK.

My dad was worried. These are confidential stuff.

Is it appropriate for interviewers to take these confidential info home?

Please share your thoughts.

interviewers aren’t supposed to know your stats and stuff. they’re supposed to find out who you are as a person and not how well you did on tests and stuff

^actually i just read somewhere that harvard actually asks interviewers to get that info from you so i guess its the norm

^ my interviewer requested my SAT scores, GPA, PSAT scores, and my extracurricular interests. I think it’s fairly normal procedure.

On a different note, my interview went fairly well. We talked about practically everything. At the end, he told me I would like Harvard, which I’m choosing to take as a compliment.

But I really don’t care, in a way, because I got into UChicago EA (with a small scholarship), which to be honest I like much better than Harvard. Much less full of itself.

I ticked “No” and then next to reasons I wrote “UK students will be contacted by interviewer”

"^ my interviewer requested my SAT scores, GPA, PSAT scores, and my extracurricular interests. I think it’s fairly normal procedure. "

However, is it normal procedure for the interviewer to take home copies of my transcript, my scores, my complete application and essays?

This was what happened at the end of my interview.

I mean, the interviewer could post all the confidential info, and give them to anyone without my authorization.
